Hot Tub Sizes & Dimensions: 2026 Planning Guide

Cover and cabinet detail on a Hot Spring Jetsetter hot tub

Choose the seating first, then check the footprint

A hot tub has to fit both your household and your home. Start with the people who will use it most often, then compare the exact outside dimensions, seat layout and installation requirements of the models on your shortlist. Seat count alone is not a reliable way to predict size.

Real model dimensions, not a one-size-fits-all chart

The manufacturer currently lists the Hot Spring Jetsetter with three seats at 7 ft x 5 ft 8 in x 33 in; the Freeflow Azure with four seats at 5 ft 7 in x 6 ft 7 in x 33 in; and the Hot Spring Rhythm with seven seats at 7 ft x 7 ft x 36 in. These are model examples, not minimum space requirements or a promise of showroom stock. Confirm the model year and current specification sheet before preparing the installation area.

Shopping for two, four, six or eight people

For one or two regular users, compare compact models without assuming that the smallest outside footprint will provide the most comfortable seating. For four people, look at legroom and how a lounge seat changes the layout. For six or more, compare the usable seats, footwell and entry points. If you expect eight or more people to use the water at once, ask the showroom to identify suitable current models rather than relying on a generic size class. Read our family-size guide for help choosing the seating layout.

Measure more than the installation spot

Record the planned location and the complete route from the delivery vehicle: gates, narrow paths, corners, stairs, roof overhangs and any slope. Ask the delivery team to confirm the spa’s transport orientation and equipment clearance. Do not assume that adding a fixed number of inches to one dimension guarantees access. Alternative delivery methods, including a crane where appropriate, require a site-specific assessment.

Plan service access, support and electrical work

Use the chosen model’s pre-delivery instructions to plan the foundation, equipment access and cover-lifter clearance. A deck or balcony requires a qualified assessment of the spa, water and occupant loads; do not rely on a generic pounds-per-square-foot figure. Electrical requirements vary by model and configuration. Plug-and-play is not permission to use any available outlet. Ask a qualified electrician to confirm the required supply, GFCI protection, bonding and disconnect arrangement under the manufacturer’s instructions and applicable local requirements.

Get a complete project quote

Ask for a quote that separates the spa, cover and lifter, delivery, site preparation and electrical work. A generic price band cannot predict the cost of your property-specific installation. Our hot-tub cost guide can help you organize the questions, but your written quote should identify the exact model and scope.

Compare sizes with your local team

Bring your measurements and a few photos of the route and installation area to Snake River Pool & Spa. Contact Boise, Meridian, Nampa, Twin Falls or Hailey before visiting to confirm which models are on display and whether a test soak is available. For a tighter patio, read our small-backyard hot-tub guide.

Frequently asked questions

Is there one standard hot tub size?

No. Seating capacity does not determine a single footprint. Compare the exact manufacturer's length, width and height for each model, then plan separately for delivery, service access and the cover lifter.

What size hot tub should I choose for four people?

Start by comparing models rated for at least four occupants, then check the seat layout and footwell space. A lounge seat changes how the interior feels, so try the seating rather than choosing only by the outside dimensions.

How much clearance does a hot tub need?

There is no universal clearance allowance. Use the selected model's pre-delivery instructions and the cover-lifter requirements, and have the dealer check access to the equipment compartment and the delivery route.

Does a plug-and-play hot tub need a dedicated circuit?

Plug-and-play does not mean any household outlet is suitable. Follow the exact model's electrical instructions, including dedicated-circuit and GFCI requirements where specified, and have a qualified electrician confirm the installation.

Can a hot tub go on an existing deck or balcony?

Do not assume that an existing deck or balcony can support it. Have a qualified structural professional assess the specific spa, water and occupant loads and the condition and design of the supporting structure.

How do I know whether a hot tub will fit through my gate?

Measure the narrowest width, overhead clearance, steps and turns along the entire route. The delivery team must confirm the spa's transport orientation and the space needed for its equipment before delivery is scheduled.
